When Castone Construction brought us in for the new Supplements King location in Oakville, the challenge wasn’t just technical - it was strategic.
The space started with a fresh concrete slab, but like most new pours, it lacked the qualities required for a finished retail environment. The surface was porous, inconsistent in texture, and visually flat, with minor imperfections and no protective layer. Left untreated, this type of concrete would quickly become a liability - prone to dusting, staining, moisture intrusion, and long-term surface degradation, especially under the demands of a high-traffic retail setting.
But the real issue went deeper than performance.
Supplements King is a brand-driven environment built around energy, aesthetics, and customer experience. A dull, unfinished floor would immediately disconnect from that identity. The space needed to feel clean, premium, and intentional, not industrial or incomplete. At the same time, the floor had to withstand:
The client couldn’t afford a floor that looked good for a few months and then deteriorated. They needed a system that delivered long-term durability, low maintenance, and strong visual impact - all while staying on schedule with other trades and project timelines.
To meet both the performance and branding requirements, we implemented a multi-layer metallic epoxy floor system engineered specifically for commercial retail environments.
The process began with mechanical surface preparation using diamond grinding, which removed surface laitance, opened the concrete pores, and created the proper profile for maximum adhesion. This step is critical - without it, even the best coating systems can fail prematurely.
Next, we addressed all visible imperfections through targeted crack repair and surface refinement, ensuring a smooth and uniform substrate. This created a flawless foundation for the coating system and eliminated potential weak points.
We then applied a 100% solids tinted epoxy basecoat, installed at the correct thickness to provide structural integrity, color depth, and a strong bonding layer for the metallic system. This base layer plays a key role in the durability and longevity of the floor.
The defining feature of the project came with the custom metallic epoxy application. Using controlled flow techniques, the coating was manipulated to create a dynamic, fluid, three-dimensional visual effect - delivering a high-end finish that aligns with the Supplements King brand. Unlike standard coatings, metallic epoxy adds movement, depth, and uniqueness to every square foot of the floor.
To complete the system, we applied a satin-finish polyurethane topcoat, which acts as a protective barrier against:
This final layer ensures the floor remains easy to maintain, highly durable, and visually consistent over time.
